Islam Elbeiti is a versatile bassist advancing women’s rights in Sudan, through her minimalistic trio showcasing how a simple musical setup can change the stereotype in Sudan that women can’t produce high quality music, and member of all-women’s band Sawa Sawa, lled by legendary Zakia Sharhabil, who in the 1960s premièred on stage as the first female instrumentalist in Sudan. Founder of a musical co-production and women development Initiative known as Si La Mi which is part of the Democratizing Music Movement, in addition, Islam hosts a Jazz based weekly Radio show at capital 91.6 FM in Khartoum. She is working to achieve a sustainable music industry in Sudan, serving as Creative Program Officer at Impact Hub Khartoum (part of the Impact Hub Global Network) to train and develop artists in creative entrepreneurship.
